A recent highlight on the tinnitus calendar was The Academy Research Conference 2025 (ARC), held virtually on 17 October 2025. This conference showcased the latest diagnostic and management approaches for tinnitus. The event featured a diverse range of topics and cutting-edge insights from distinguished speakers. What stood out was the focus on progress both in tinnitus research and considering holistic factors impacting tinnitus together with multidisciplinary management approaches.
The conference planning committee, led by Jamie Bogle and Riley DeBacker, deserve commendation for creating such a diverse programme. The talks were bound to shape clinical practice, such as considering the role of central sensitisation and migraine in tinnitus by Prof Hamid Djalilian and somatosensory tinnitus and assessment considerations by Saraj Theodoroff. A comprehensive presentation on ototoxic medications that can worsen tinnitus and emerging therapeutic approaches to enhance tinnitus management was very informative by Riley DeBacker.

Aspect of the latest approaches regarding hyperacusis and misphonia, which have not always received widespread attention, were also covered by Prof James Henry. A cutting-edge talk was given by Kelly Jahn regarding pain hyperacusis and differentiating it from loudness hyperacusis. Further helpful talks include information regarding imaging and tinnitus mechanisms by Fatima Husain and the epidemiological of tinnitus by Prof Mark Fagelson and Kelly Reavis.

The focus on tinnitus management included highlighting evidence-based approaches surrounding medical aspects of tinnitus management by Michael Rob, cognitive behavioral therapy by Eldre Beukes, sound therapy by Prof Grant Searchfield.
Prof Hamid Djallilian, outlining otologic migraine
This conference was a huge success and valued due to the depth of knowledge shared. It is encouraging to see fresh approaches to diagnosing and managing tinnitus.
