The first day of this successful masterclass focused on head and neck surgery and voice medicine. Experts shared their exquisite surgical skills on laryngectomy, parotidectomy, parathyroidectomy and reconstruction of head neck defects with local and free flaps. Five experts participated in a lively panel discussion about two cases of rare laryngeal lesions. Later in the evening, there was a three-hour live session on temporal bone dissection.

The busy schedule continued on the second day with three parallel sessions. In the session on otology and sleep medicine, there were wonderful lectures about inner ear malformation, cochlear implantation and skills of petrosectomy. New techniques using the active osseointegrated implant system and a 4K 3D exoscope ignited much interest. Also discussed was the latest knowledge about snoring assessments, blocking-plane positioning, obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) surgeries and typical OSA cases.

In the rhinology sessions, experts shared their experiences on cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea, nasal valve surgery and trans orbital surgeries. Chinese and British experts took part in a panel discussion about repair after transnasal skull base resection.

The 3rd ENT Nursing Masterclass® China on 20 April attracted a large audience from across the country. Speakers from China and the UK shared their experiences in balance rehabilitation, swallowing training and postoperative care in otolaryngology. There were seven excellent trainee presentations from Beijing, Xi’an and Sichuan on topics such as sudden hearing loss, olfactory function and voice therapy. Xiaoguang Yan from Beijing Friendship Hospital won the gold medal and the opportunity to attend the next National ENT Masterclass® in the UK.

On the last day, the lecture about robot-assisted cochlear implants provided a new outlook on otologic surgery. Also beneficial were sessions on facial nerve tumors, stapedectomy, endoscopic and microscopic surgery in otology. Professor Zhigang Huang, the President of the Chinese Society of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, discussed the development of minimally invasive surgery in head and neck. He also spoke highly of the ENT Masterclass® China and expressed its great significance in providing good teaching to Chinese ENT doctors.

Professor Yuhe Liu (left), the Director of the ENT department of Beijing Friendship Hospital, closed the course, expressing the importance of international co-operation in otolaryngology education. During the three-day course, over 300 delegates from all over China attended face to face and over 11,000 people logged into the virtual portal for the live streaming.

Each day was followed by a sumptuous meal for the faculty and volunteers. Most of the faculty followed the meeting with a three-day tourist trip to Zhangjiajie National Park. The 2025 ENT Masterclass® China is now in preparation. We look forward to it and welcome the participation of more colleagues and friends.
