Our best wishes to Barnsley audiologist Rebecca Jenkins who is running the London Marathon in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Rebecca and her partner Ashley Drew run Echowell Audiology in Mapplewell and have been training together for the 26.2-mile challenge to raise vital funds and awareness for a cause close to their hearts.

“Being profoundly deaf and never truly experiencing sound, is incredibly isolating,” says Rebecca. “To have a hearing dog who is not only your best friend, but also alerts you to important and often life-saving sounds the rest of us take for granted – like smoke alarms and fire alarms – is incredible.”

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that rebuilds deaf people’s confidence, companionship and their connection to the world around them by training dogs to alert deaf people to vital everyday sounds.
