Cochlea Implant International Community of Action (CIICA) is launching two new resources to support CI advocacy work around the world. These will expand their well-used range of resources, including briefings for children and adults, research roundups and summaries of evidence.
Investing in our hearing improves lives and is cost-effective
An update of CIICA’s popular Spend2Save briefing, this provides an accessible summary of the latest figures about the impact of adult hearing loss, as well as both the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of today’s hearing technologies.
For those advocating for improved access to hearing technologies and services, this briefing will provide support for advocacy in a format accessible to non-professionals, policy makers and funders.
This resource has been created in collaboration with the following organisations: the European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association (EHIMA); European CI Users (EURO-CIU); European Federation of Hard of Hearing (EFHOH); and the European Association of Hearing Aid Professionals (AEA).
Considering a cochlear implant(CI)? 20 questions to ask: a prompt list
Potential users often find the assessment for CI can be bewildering, when faced with a wide range of information to absorb. This ‘Question Prompt List’ (QPL) is based on recommendations by members of CIICA. Following a series of conversations, cochlea implant and hearing aid users and clinicians were asked to participate in a consensus process, by first reviewing and then prioritising the most frequently mentioned “questions I wished I had asked” prior to implantation. CIICA hopes they will provide useful prompts for those thinking about assessment for CI, helping candidates ask the questions they really need to know and encouraging clinics to provide relevant information in a timely fashion.
Both resources can be downloaded at: www.ciicanet.org/resources
These resources will be launched at the CI Advocacy in Action conference in Brussels, 16 - 17 October. For the programme and registration see:
