The British Endoscopic Ear Group (BEEG) has been established to support the continued development and integration of endoscopic ear surgery (EES) within UK otological practice and training.
Although endoscopic techniques have transformed otology in many parts of Europe and internationally over the past two decades, uptake in the UK has historically been slower. However, interest has grown steadily in recent years, driven by improved instrumentation, increasing published evidence, and a new generation of surgeons trained in both microscopic and endoscopic approaches.
BEEG has been formed to provide a focused forum for collaboration, knowledge sharing and mentorship among surgeons practising – or seeking to develop – endoscopic ear surgery. The group aims to facilitate high-quality training, encourage open discussion of technique and outcomes, and support research and data collection within the UK.
The long-term vision is not to create division within otology, but to help ensure that endoscopic techniques become part of the standard armamentarium of the modern British otologist.
The inaugural BEEG meeting will take place on Friday 8 May at Royal Derby Hospital. The programme will explore the past, present and future of endoscopic ear surgery in the UK, alongside dedicated sessions for trainee contributions. The meeting is designed to foster both academic discussion and professional networking among consultants and trainees with an interest in EES.
