The third edition of Browning’s Audiology for Clinicians is one of the clearest and most practical audiology texts I’ve used in ENT. It focuses on what matters clinically, presenting audiological principles in a way that supports real decision-making.

What stands out immediately is how practical the book feels. Rather than overwhelming the reader with dense theory, the authors present audiological concepts in a way that fits naturally into day-to-day ENT practice. Experienced clinicians and trainees will appreciate how the various audiological assessments and techniques are presented, giving clear explanations for readers new to the topics, whilst offering useful reminders to the experienced clinician.

The book also benefits from its updated content. The discussions on paediatric hearing assessment, cochlear and middle-ear implants, and current audiological technologies make the text feel modern and relevant. I especially appreciated the concise clinical pearls woven throughout; these often mirror the sort of practical tips we pass on informally to juniors in theatre or clinic.

If I were to make one suggestion, it would be to include more visual material in a few of the more technical chapters, where diagrams or example traces would have added clarity. However, this is a minor criticism in an otherwise very readable book.

Overall, this edition of Browning’s Audiology for Clinicians feels like a dependable companion – reassuringly familiar but renewed in all the right places. It is excellent value for ENT surgeons, audiologists and trainees alike.
