This new edition comes 12 years after the previous one. It is presented in six sections covering the major subspecialties within otorhinolaryngology, along with a section on innovations and advances in the specialty.
The editors have invited subject specialists from across the UK, who have explored a range of current topics comprehensively across 15 cutting-edge illustrated chapters. They have done well in undertaking the difficult task of selecting topics from the many within our specialty.
Each chapter addresses different aspects of the conditions and neatly summarises the topic with ‘key points’, ‘pearls and pitfalls’, and ‘evidence-based medicine’. The authors support each chapter with extensive references for readers. There is also a topical chapter on artificial intelligence and technological advances, which should be of particular interest to readers.
This book would be a useful read for registrars, covering important clinical topics, and serves as a helpful aid for candidates preparing for the MRCS/FRCS exams. A few additional chapters on head and neck surgery and innovations in diagnostic tools would be a welcome addition in the next edition. The price seems slightly steep (on Amazon, £162.00) for a 162-page paperback edition.
