Dr Prathamesh Pai is a Professor in the Department of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC), Mumbai, India which is India’s apex tertiary comprehensive cancer institute. He is convener of the multidisciplinary Head and Neck Disease Management Group and is a teacher for the MCh (Head and Neck Surgical Oncology) an MCI recognised structured three year training course. His special interests are oral and transoral laryngeal laser surgery and skull base surgery with focus on minimal access. He has been convener of the multidisciplinary Skull Base Clinic since 2007 as well as course director of the Head Neck Laser Course since 2014 at the Tata Memorial Centre. A keen clinical researcher he is currently leading a pivotal large randomised controlled trial on oral metronomic chemotherapy in advanced operable oral cancers. He has over 90 peer reviewed articles and is co-editor of the monograph Surgery for Larynx and Hypopharynx, and he has recently authored a chapter on ‘Management of Paranasal Sinus Tumours’ in the 9th UICC Manual of Clinical Oncology.

In 2002 Dr Pai received the UICC Fellowship in Endoscopic Approaches to Sinonasal and Skull Base Tumours at Klinikum Fulda, Germany with Prof Wolfgang Draf. He was awarded the Hargobind Medical Fellowship in 2007 for Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Surgery of the Skull Base and Pituitary at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. Dr Pai is past secretary of the Foundation for Head and Neck Oncology, a national multidisciplinary organisation committed to raising the standards and practice of head and neck oncology in India. He is currently Secretary of the Indian Society of Thyroid Surgeons. He is member of several national and international associations including the Association of Otolaryngologists of India, American Head Neck Society, Skull Base Surgeons of India, UICC, North American Skull Base Society and Asia Pacific Thyroid Society.
