On day one, the organising team welcomed over 250 delegates to a packed hall. Michael Kuo (Birmingham) kicked off the paediatric session with airways and neck lumps. Paula Coyle (London) discussed three approaches to medial orbital abscesses in children. Asad Qayyum (Peterborough) steered us to otology with a helpful talk on endoscopic ear surgery

Professor Shak Saeed (London) provided an excellent overview on cerebellopontine angle lesions and on middle ear surgery outcomesboth essential topics.

Abir Bhattacharya (London) described cholesteatoma surgery techniques, then intratympanic treatment for inner ear pathology. Professor Peter Rea shone a light on recent developments in BPPV, Meniere’s and PPPD with clarity and enthusiasm. Professor Ahmet Ikiz (Turkey) discussed open partial laryngectomy. Professor Viorel Zainea (Romania) gave a number of illustrative cases of pre-malignant vocal fold lesions. Ricard Simo (London) covered two key topics: thyroid nodules and parotid neoplasms. Nigel Beasley (Sheffield) spoke on a popular MDT topic: the unknown primary, then moderated another lively panel discussion.

In the trainee poster competition, six lucky winners were awarded 500 each. The local hospitality impressed with generous lunches for delegates and a musical evening at the Romanian Athenaeum for faculty.

The World Congress gathered trailblazers to discuss key ENT topics succinctly, benefiting colleagues in the UK, Romania and beyond.  We are already arranging our leave for the next World Congress, 6-7 October 2023 in Bucharest!
