BIOHIT HealthCare recently published a blog exploring the challenges of diagnosing and managing reflux in infants and children. BIOHIT spoke with David Wynne, consultant paediatric ENT surgeon at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, who discussed how non-invasive objective diagnostics are particularly important in paediatrics, where the current investigations are often poorly tolerated.

David Wynne.
Reflux is extremely common in infancy and early childhood, and often manifests through non-specific signs – such as a cough, feeding difficulties or poor weight gain – that overlap with symptoms of other conditions. It would be impractical to perform highly invasive endoscopies on all paediatric patients with these symptoms, demonstrating the need for objective, non-invasive tests.
