BIOHIT HealthCare recently brought together leading ENT specialists and speech and language therapy professionals for a roundtable discussion on the complexities of diagnosing laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) and extraoesophageal reflux.
Key themes included the lack of consensus around LPR as a condition, the reliance on empirical PPI prescribing, long waiting times and the burden of current diagnostic pathways. The group explored whether a simple, non-invasive pepsin test – such as Peptest® – could be introduced across ENT, primary care or even community diagnostic centres to support quicker diagnoses earlier in the patient journey, helping to guide treatments and reduce pressure on ENT services. Pathway development and the influence of trust-level funding were also highlighted as important factors in shaping how such approaches might be implemented.
Now BIOHIT would like to hear your thoughts. Do you share these concerns, or do you see the challenges differently? We’ve created a short questionnaire to capture your views.
