Mr Kristijonas Milinis and his co-editors have collected a broad range of cases from consultants across the UK and overseas in producing this latest case-based discussion series published by Oxford University Press.

The book is divided into five chapters covering the five ENT subspecialities of paediatric ENT, rhinology and anterior skull base surgery, otology and neurotology, head and neck surgery and laryngology and facial plastics.

Each chapter covers around 10 cases from the more common to the more obscure clinical presentations, and goes through each case vignette in a viva-style question and answer approach, followed by clear explanations covering the key topics of history, examination, differential diagnosis, investigations and management. Each case provides key reference material for readers to go on to explore areas in greater depth. The high-quality images, figures and multimedia links supplement the cases beautifully. There is also an information box accompanying each case providing key points that can be overlooked or poorly understood.

This book is essential reading material for any trainee about to sit the FRCS section 2 examination. Whilst some of the content is beyond MRCS level, I still feel more junior trainees wishing to pursue a career in ENT will find this book to be an excellent tool to expand their knowledge. As a newly qualified consultant, I found the book to be an excellent knowledge refresher and helpful resource for teaching material. The price point of £54.99 is reasonable, although may be a little steep for foundation doctors and core trainees.
