In the second edition of this popular dissection guide the authors have raised the bar even higher, expanding on the infratemporal and middle fossa dissection guide. There is also a brief description of the use of endoscopes in middle ear surgery, a rapidly advancing field within this specialty.

CT scans have been included in the text to emphasise the importance of understanding anatomy and its variation whilst planning surgery. This book very succinctly highlights the importance of appropriate use of drills, microscopes and other instruments, as well as explaining how these skills can be transferred from the lab to the operating theatre.

The dissection guide follows a very structured, systematic approach in helping the trainee surgeon understand the importance of anatomic landmarks when mastering the skill of temporal bone dissection.

The images included in the book are well-drawn and appropriately referenced and the text is easy to follow.

This dissection guide covers all aspects of temporal bone dissection. In my opinion, all trainees should have this a copy of the Temporal Bone Dissection Guide as this one book will look after all trainees at various levels of training. I have found reviewing this guide very refreshing and interesting. I strongly recommend this as a must have for all institutes that run temporal bone dissection courses.
