Regular visitors to our website will know that we have published a number of supplements in recent months, focusing on specific areas of clinical practice. These have given us an opportunity for a ‘deep dive’ into a particular area. In this edition, my co-editor Gareth Smith has brought together a group of articles focusing on auditory diagnostics and innovations.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has generated a huge amount of interest in treating a number of conditions, and we have previously published articles on its use in rhinology and laryngology. We hear from Shiying Hey on her experience treating voice disorders in a large UK centre.
Our ENT nursing colleagues are often unsung heroines (and heroes) in the running of ENT services. We have previously highlighted the training undertaken by the ENT Masterclass® team for ENT nurses, so it was great that we were able to catch up with Sister Lucy Brooks from Doncaster – she gives us some background on the history of ENT specialist nursing and how it is evolving. With the scorching summer we recently experienced across Europe and its attendant wildfires and water shortages, the environment is never far from our minds. As we have seen in articles published here over the years (most notably by Mahmood Bhutta), healthcare is a huge contributor to carbon emissions, not to mention waste generation and resource depletion. Audiology practice is working to promote sustainable healthcare.
