Amplifon’s $2 billion move into manufacturing: what it means for audiology
Our audiology editor Yovina Khiroya writes: Amplifon, the world’s largest hearing aid retailer, has announced a reported $2 billion acquisition of GN Hearing, the company behind ReSound, Beltone and Jabra Enhance. While headline-grabbing, the strategic implications are arguably more significant than the deal value itself.
New BSO president
Professor Arun Iyer has taken on the role of President of the British Society of Otology. A consultant otologist and professor at University Hospital Monklands in Lanarkshire, Scotland, he is actively involved in postgraduate education through the University of Glasgow.
New treatment for chronic voice disorders
A new regenerative treatment for people with chronic voice disorders has been used in the UK for the first time. Guy’s and St Thomas’ is the first NHS trust in the country to provide this treatment in the larynx (or voice box) for patients with chronic voice conditions that cause voice change or dysphonia, making the voice sound hoarse, strained, breathy, weak, or fluctuate in pitch and loudness.

Women in Surgery photography exhibition
Three ENT consultants feature in an exhibition that shines a spotlight on women in surgery. ‘Insight: Portraits of Women in Surgery’ runs until mid-April at the Hunterian Museum within the Royal College of Surgeons in London. It brings together women surgeons from different surgical specialities, career stages and regions across the UK.
The Launch of the British Endoscopic Ear Group
The British Endoscopic Ear Group (BEEG) has been established to support the continued development and integration of endoscopic ear surgery (EES) within UK otological practice and training. Interest has grown steadily in recent years, driven by improved instrumentation, increasing published evidence, and a new generation of surgeons trained in both microscopic and endoscopic approaches.
