Fungal sinusitis is a common problem and it is well recognised that it can be difficult to remove all of the fungal matter from the maxillary sinus to ensure no recurrence or residual disease. This study describes a technique utilising a temporary minimal inferior meatal antrostomy which allows access to the maxillary sinus for either the endoscope or an instrument to assist complete removal. The postoperative examinations at one, two and three months recorded the closure of the inferior minimal antrostomy in most patients and a statistically significant higher clearance rate of any residual fungal debris in the inferior antrostomy group, particularly involving the floor and the anterior wall of the maxillary sinus. The paper describes an easy to perform adjunct for a common surgery which may well improve surgical outcomes. An interesting approach.
