Auditory processing disorder (APD) has been a subject for discussion for the last 20 years. Though the body of research is growing, it still lacks cohesive diagnostic and management criteria. Similar surveys on APD have taken place in other countries. This online survey is of audiologists in Malaysia. Just over half of those targeted responded. It was found 15% of those conducted APD screening and 5% offered diagnostic services. This survey does look into details surrounding the clinicians being questioned and the data is anonymised. Unsurprisingly self-perceived knowledge of APD is low. Interestingly, those who had participated in formal training did not consistently feel they had greater skills in relation to APD, suggesting a purely lecture-based training basis on this subject is insufficient. This survey, like many others, questions knowledge, application of knowledge and importance of diagnosis. However, one could argue that evidence-based guidance may need to be the first hurdle and then confident training and knowledge application could follow.
