Beats of Cochlea: the 10th International Music Festival for Youths with Hearing Problems

The 10th International Music Festival for Youths with Hearing Problems Beats of Cochlea was held on 10-12 July 2024 in Warsaw, Poland. The festival is an initiative that gathers people of all ages, amateurs and professional musicians, from various countries with different types of auditory implants in one place and time to participate in a music competition, which ends with a gala concert of laureates.

New Usher Syndrome helpline

A new helpline has been launched to provide one-stop support for people with Usher syndrome (the most common genetic cause of deafblindness). The helpline is run by a charity partnership of Deafblind UK and Deafblind Scotland, and will be a dedicated support service for people living with Usher syndrome and for families, carers and professionals supporting them.

Tinnitus UK calls for policy change

Tinnitus Week 2026 in February was heralded a success after a powerful campaign for policy change and a first 'safe listening’ concert. A series of high-profile activities led by Tinnitus UK, brought together policymakers, musicians, health professionals and audiences to address the growing impact of tinnitus linked to live music and sound exposure.

Looking forward: incoming RSM presidents preview the year ahead

This November, Professor Simon Lloyd takes over from Patrick Axon as Otology Section President of the Royal Society of Medicine, and Professor Vin Paleri takes over from Michelle Wyatt as President of the Laryngology and Rhinology Section.
