After a short time away, Otovent auto inflation device is now available again on prescription. Otovent is listed in the Drug Tariff under Autoinflation for a price of £6.69. Otovent is clinically proven to alleviate the symptoms of glue ear in children. A recent NICE surveillance study recommended that Otovent be “offered” to each child during the watchful waiting period.
Otovent is a clinically effective, non-surgical treatment designed to treat otitis media with effusion that can be tried whilst waiting for ENT assessment. In a recent NHS study by Ian Williamson of Southampton University, using Otovent vs. non Otovent treatment regimes, 47.3% vs. 35.6% had normal tympanograms at three months respectively and it estimated that for every £44.10 spent on Otovent the NHS saved £802.
