The world of audiology and ENT will already know of the tragic death of Professor David Baguley in June 2022 at the age of just 61. David was a huge figure in the world of audiology and was a world leader in audiological research, particularly in the area of tinnitus. For many years, he was a good friend of this magazine, and we have all been immensely saddened by his death. Dave was instrumental in transforming ENT News into ENT & Audiology News, so we owe a great deal to him. Our Audiology Editor, Gareth Smith, has asked a number of his friends and colleagues to write articles in tribute to the enormous legacy of his working life. Gareth tells us about the articles in his introduction here.

As we head into the spring of 2023, the number of meetings and conferences is proliferating rapidly. In recent months, the team at ENT & Audiology News has attended meetings in Dubai (IFOS), Birmingham (BACO), Milan (CEORL-HNS) and others. As we look ahead to the next few months, we will be in Liverpool (ESPO) and we will be covering the ELS Congress in Milan and the ERS Congress in Sofia. The bidding process for hosting conferences is always very competitive, so we pass on our heartfelt congratulations to Prof Metin Önerci on his success in bringing IFOS 2026 to Istanbul. We actually spoke to him recently about central Asian countries and the ENT services in that part of the world – look out for this fascinating article in an upcoming issue. As we go to press, the devastating earthquake in Türkiye and Syria is in the headlines, so our thoughts are very much with our friends in that part of the world.

We focus on rhinology in this edition as we head to the ERS Congress in Bulgaria: Professor Wytske Fokkens, the Secretary General of the meeting, has brought together a group of articles focusing on this international gathering in June. Click here to read her introduction to the articles.

Regular readers will know that ENT & Audiology News has a large database of forthcoming courses, conferences and meetings. This is the most comprehensive summary in the worldwide ENT literature, so click on our Events and News sections to see what is up-and-coming. And if you would like to advertise your own meeting (and reach our 36,000 readers around the world), please do make contact with us. Finally, please do join the conversation on social media – you can find us on @ENT_AudsNews.
