Matthew Yung and Chris Raine Travelling Scholarship to Iowa

I was the grateful recipient of the 2020 Matthew Yung and Chris Raine scholarship, although due to the Covid pandemic and its aftermath I could not take up the opportunity until June this year. I chose to visit the otology and neurotology department at Iowa University Hospitals, in particular to meet with Bruce Gantz, an early adopter of bony obliteration of the mastoid, himself inspired by the work of Ulf Mercke of Sweden who developed this technique in the 1980s.

In 2018, I compiled a book with the title Landmark Papers in Otolaryngology. The book was inspired by the ENT department journal club that regularly took place in a local Norwich pub, and it discusses 99 of the most cited papers in the ENT and audiology literature.

Rask-Andersen made honorary member of ENT UK

The inner-ear research laboratory at the University of Uppsala in Sweden has a long tradition of ear research. The department has been linked to such legendary names as Barany (Nobel Laureate), Nylen and Stahle. Now, the head of that department, Professor Helge Rask-Andersen, has been awarded honorary membership of ENT UK.
