The 66th Hallpike Symposium - BAAP

The 66th Hallpike Symposium took place on the 15th November 2024. It was organised by Drs Carolyn Ainsworth and Rosa Crunkhorn, Audiovestibular Medicine (AVM) Consultants at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London. The theme of the event was ‘Recognising systemic conditions associated with audiovestibular dysfunction for the practicing clinician’.

Smell Above All: Where Technology Meets the Nose

This event, part of the EPSRC/NIHR-funded Smell Care Project, gathered over 100 international attendees. It highlighted the often-overlooked importance of smell in daily life, supporting individuals with smell loss through digital training and showcasing technology that enhances smell-related quality of life.

Global inequality in audiology care

A new study comparing audiological care across different counties found there is a huge disparity across high- and low-income countries. Published in the International Journal of Audiology, the study was entitled ‘Global disparities in hearing care services and infrastructure: findings from a 47-country international provider survey’.

Remembering James F Jerger

Dr Jerger contributed remarkably to both the scientific basis and clinical practice of our profession. He passed away on July 24 at the age of 96 years. James F Jerger, PhD, was the Founder of the American Academy of Audiology and served as its first president. He was a gifted and prolific writer, a renowned scientist, and a beloved teacher and colleague.
